Anti-Blocking / Spacer

No adhesion and bonding of individual film layers

The addition of anti-block additives roughens the film surface and therefore reduces the contact area and the adhesion forces between the film layers.

Three major factors influence the effectiveness of anti-blocking additives: the particle size, the number of surface-active particles and the particle distribution.

PolypearlTM organic microbeads work specifically against bonding as spacers.

  • Advantages

    • homogeneous, narrow particle distribution
    • high transparency, no influence on optical properties
    • food approval
    • widely compatible
    • positive influence on slip properties
    • easy incorporation
    • very good temperature resistance
  • Application

Anti-blocking
in Detail

Thin films that are produced using biaxial stretching are becoming increasingly important as functional packaging for food, cigarettes and cosmetics. BOPP, BOPE and BOPET films are preferred - these special films offer excellent visual properties such as transparency and shininess, are tasteless and odourless and possess very good durability.

Special additives enable high belt speeds and the functionality of the films:

Organic PolypearlTM microbeads act as spacers. The roughening of the film surface reduces the contact surface of the film and thus the adhesive forces - this prevents the film layers from sticking. The coefficient of friction (COF) is reduced, which means that high processing speeds and good machinability can be achieved.

The spherical particles ME Series (based on silicone binding agents) and the PMMA beads of the FHD range are favoured in food packaging, especially in BOPP and polyolefin films. Defined particle sizes and narrow particle distributions (low coefficient of variation) ensure high transparency and even distribution of the microbeads, especially in thin foils / skin layers, even with low dosages. The microbeads are available in different sizes for different thicknesses of foils / skin layers.

No migration, food product approval, good temperature resistance, broad compatibility and being both tasteless and odourless mean the PolypearlTM ME and MH FHD microbeads are predestined for use in these special functional films.
